How to Fix a Window Delayed Write Error
In Windows, a feature called "write caching" or "write behind caching" is used to increase the performance of the hard drive. If the hard drive is busy when you save a file, Windows will queue the file in memory and write it to the drive later when the drive becomes available. While this feature has performance benefits, it can result in data loss if the hard drive that is being used experiences an interruption in power, such as is frequently the case with external hard drives. Disable write caching on a hard drive if you frequently experience an error stating that "delayed write failed"
Click the Start button, then click Computer if you are running Windows XP.
Click the hardware tab. Click the hard drive on the list below, then click Properties.
Click the Policies tab. Remove the check from the box labeled Enable write caching on the disk.
Click OK to Close each open window, then restart the computer.
